Examples of past portrait commissions

Handcrafted Precision

Each portrait is meticulously rendered by hand, ensuring a lifelike representation that captures every intricate detail and subtle expression. The artist's skill in academic realism brings depth and authenticity to the artwork, making it a true reflection of the subject.

High-Quality Materials

Only professional-grade graphite, archival paper, premium oil paints, and fine linen canvases are used. Every material is chosen for its ability to create lasting beauty and preserve the artwork for generations.

Personalized Service

Matt works closely with each client to ensure the final portrait reflects their vision. From the first consultation to the finished piece, communication and attention to detail are central to the process.

Timeless Keepsake

A custom portrait is more than just a piece of art; it is a lasting heirloom, designed to celebrate and preserve the most important people and moments in life.

Commission Pricing & Payment

Commission pricing is determined by the agreed-upon dimensions, medium, and complexity of the requested work. A final price will be provided once these details have been established.

Work will begin once both parties have agreed to the proposed arrangement and a 50% deposit has been received. The remaining balance is due upon completion.

For clients who are unsure about the desired composition, pose, or arrangement, preliminary digital sketches are available for $30 per sketch. These sketches allow potential compositions to be explored and refined before the final commission begins.

Commission Timelines & Scheduling

All commissions are personally completed by Matt Collins, who also operates and teaches at Ottawa Art Academy. As commission work is completed alongside teaching and other professional commitments, only one commission is undertaken at a time.

Completion times vary depending on the size, medium, and complexity of each project. While an estimated timeframe may be discussed before work begins, exact completion dates cannot be guaranteed. Every effort will be made to complete each commission within a reasonable timeframe, and clients will be kept informed of any significant delays.

If additional time is required to complete a commission, any extension resulting from the artist's scheduling or workload will be provided at no additional cost to the client.

Alternative Artists

If the primary artist is unavailable to accept a commission, clients may be referred to other talented artists working at Ottawa Art Academy. Each artist operates independently and establishes their own pricing, terms, and policies.
